Discovering Astrology - a voyage of self-discovery

FAQs about Equinox:
by Robert Currey

How did you get into astrology?

78 is as you will see an important number for me. 1978 was the year I began my first job as a commodity broker trading in sugar from the City of London. The job didn't stretch my training in psychology and philosophy, but dealing in futures presaged what lay ahead.

There was a more important development in '78. My sister, Arabella (Sun in Leo), wisely ignored my scepticism about all things metaphysical, and prepared an analysis of my birth chart. It was, as she will admit a very crude report even though it took her the best part of a week to research and compile. But once I realised that the information was strictly from astrological books and not using her inside family knowledge, this was the start of a journey of self-discovery and a life-long fascination. ~Robert

How did you set yourself up as an astrologer?

How do you prepare your charts?

While working by day and travelling on business to Japan, I pursued my astrological studies in my spare time. On 2nd November 1981, I set up my company Equinox with £300 and a dream of bringing personal astrology to a disbelieving world.

Initially I worked from home as a consultant astrologer and teacher. From my consultancy, I built up case notes to identify similar patterns in my clients' charts. The growth of computer technology enabled me to collate this information and present it as a coherent written astrological analysis to my clients at a fraction of the price of a one-to-one consultation. ~Robert

Where are you located?

How can you support your clients worldwide?

On 2nd November 1989, coinciding with the liberation of the Berlin Wall, I opened Equinox at the Astrology Shop at 78 Neal Street in London's Covent Garden. Fortunately, the opening of the shop coincided with a great renaissance of interest in real astrology and all things celestial.

By the end of the Millennium, it was time to escape the hurly-burly of metropolitan life and the ties of running a busy retail shop. I was privileged to have a manager, Barry Street, who was both a natural astrologer and able to retain the personal touch for which the shop has been famous. So while the Astrology Shop remains London's prime retail resource for charts, software, astrological books and celestial gifts under Barry, our head office for mail order and web servicing is now located in the pure and tranquil environment of the Isle of Man.

However, our offices in Portland, Oregon, USA and Sydney, NSW, Australia are important centres from where we can support customers and keep track of orders in these continents. In addition, when the long summer days subside in our mystical Isle, much of my time is spent in the USA and Australia. I travel with my wife, Karen Chiarello who is a mathematician and astrologer - a mathemagician.

Karen and I are available at the Equinox booth at all the major metaphysical expos in key cities throughout the English-speaking world. So, please come and talk to us about astrology, your chart and enjoy the uplifting experience of the show. And if you can't make a show, feel free to contact us, telephone or drop into the shop. For advice on very specific or highly complex issues, we can recommend a consultant, therapist or counsellor local to you. The Equinox charts are designed to support and compliment consultative work and not replace such valuable sources of help. ~ Robert Currey
